About the role

ROR Foundation Works Pty Ltd is looking for a Civil Construction Trades Worker to join our team in Woodville North. You will prepare and level sites, operate earthmoving equipment and support excavation, drainage and civil works on residential and civil infrastructure projects.

What you'll do

  • Prepare and level construction sites through site scraping, cut and fill activities and ground preparation for civil works and residential construction projects.
  • Help set out work areas and prepare excavation zones so construction operations are safe and efficient.
  • Operate excavators, Posi-track machines and other earthmoving equipment to excavate, move and grade soil, rock, gravel and other materials as required.
  • Carry out excavation, including digging trenches, footings and foundations for residential and civil infrastructure projects.
  • Load and transport excavated materials into trucks, and support bulk earthworks and detailed excavation.
  • Assist with backfilling excavations and compacting soil to meet project specifications and site requirements.
  • Carry out daily inspections and maintenance of plant machinery, including pre-start checks of fuel levels, hydraulic systems, oil and safety features.
  • Keep plant and machinery clean and serviceable, and report mechanical faults or equipment damage to supervisors for repair or maintenance.
  • Assist with installing and handling underground services and drainage systems, including supporting pipe-laying for stormwater, sewer or water infrastructure where required.
  • Support temporary traffic control systems and site safety zones so vehicles and pedestrians can move safely around construction areas.
  • Coordinate with site supervisors, engineers, plant operators and construction teams so work is completed to project schedules and specifications.
  • Follow instructions from foremen or site managers, and communicate effectively using hand signals or two-way radios when working with machinery operators.
  • Maintain safe access and exit routes around excavation and work zones, and comply with site traffic management procedures.
  • Follow workplace health, safety and environmental procedures, company safety policies and site-specific safety management plans.
  • Identify potential hazards on site and apply appropriate control measures to minimise risks to workers and equipment.
  • Use and maintain personal protective equipment, including helmets, high-visibility clothing, safety boots, gloves and eye protection.
  • Complete daily machinery logs, inspection checklists and operational records, including fuel usage and equipment operating hours.
  • Report site incidents, hazards, near misses and operational issues to supervisors in line with workplace procedures.
  • Support environmental protection on site by preventing fuel or oil spills, controlling dust and runoff, and complying with environmental management plans.
  • Help protect surrounding infrastructure, underground utilities and vegetation while carrying out construction activities.

About you

  • At least 1 year of experience on civil construction or earthworks projects.
  • Ability to operate, or assist in operating, excavators, Posi-track machines or similar earthmoving equipment.
  • Knowledge of excavation techniques, ground preparation and earthmoving processes used in civil construction.
  • Understanding of construction site safety procedures and hazard management.
  • Ability to follow site instructions and work effectively within construction teams.
  • Good communication skills when coordinating with supervisors, operators and other workers.
  • Physical fitness and the ability to perform manual tasks in outdoor construction environments.
  • Certificate III or Diploma in Civil Construction, Construction or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
